Herschel space telescope observing programmesThe Herschel space observatory is a scientific mission of the European Space Agency (ESA). The space telescope is dedicated to the study of the cold universe by performing astronomical observations in the far infrared and submillimetre parts of the electromagnetic spectrum. Various observing programmes have been selected to unveil the embedded worlds of star formation and galaxies. Among them, GOODS and NUAGE will focus on galaxy formation and evolution, while Gould Belt and HOBYS will look at the conditions for the birth of stars.
