Herschel space telescope observing programmes

The Herschel space observatory is a scientific mission of the European Space Agency (ESA). The space telescope is dedicated to the study of the cold universe by performing astronomical observations in the far infrared and submillimetre parts of the electromagnetic spectrum. Various observing programmes have been selected to unveil the embedded worlds of star formation and galaxies. Among them, GOODS and NUAGE will focus on galaxy formation and evolution, while Gould Belt and HOBYS will look at the conditions for the birth of stars.

GOODS

An observing programme about the history of galaxy formation and evolution, in the far universe 10 billion years ago up to now.

More

HOBYS

An observing programme about high mass star formation, stars that are more massive than ten times the Sun.

More

GOULD BELT

An observing prgramme about the origin of the stellar masses across several nearby region of the Gould Belt.

More

NUAGE

An observing programme about the properties of the interstellar medium and the energy mechanisms at stake inside galaxies.
