ESLAB 2010 symposium: Herschel first results

<p><a href="/Phocea/file.php?reload=1276096411&amp;class=newsImg&amp;file=_132_0_.jpg"><img style="border: 0; margin: 0 8px 5px 0;" src="/Phocea/file.php?reload=1276096411&amp;class=newsImg&amp;file=_132_0_.jpg" alt="img" width="120" align="left" /></a></p> <p align="left">The Herschel Space Observatory was successfully launched on 14 May 2009, and injected into a transfer trajectory towards its operational orbit around L2. One month after the launch the cryocover was opened, and for the first time Herschel could view the sky. The progress towards an operational space observatory is reported on on the <a href="http://herschel.esac.esa.int/latest_news.shtml" target="_blank">Herschel Science Centre (HSC) Latest News webpage</a>. The very first initial observational results were presented in the <a href="http://herschel.esac.esa.int/SDP_IR_wkshop.shtml" target="_blank">Science Demonstration Phase (SDP) Initial Results workshop</a> held on 17-18 December 2009. The data presented here had sometimes been obtained only days before workshop. Still, what was presented was enthusiastically received, and promised that Herschel's scientific harvest will be rich.</p> <p align="left">The present meeting is the first major scientific symposium presenting Herschel scientific results: the Herschel First Results Symposium, which will also be the ESLAB 2010 symposium. ESLAB is an annual meeting which in 2010 will be fully dedicated to Herschel and its first science results.</p> <p align="left"><strong>The Herschel First Results Symposium will take place on 4-7 May 2010, with a duration of 3.5 days. The meeting will start in the morning on Tuesday 4 May, and end in the early afternoon on Friday 7 May. </strong></p> <p align="left"><strong>The venue will be the <a href="http://cms.dynaweb3.nl/users/esa/?pid=802" target="_self">ESTEC Conference Centre</a>, on the premises of ESTEC, Noordwijk, The Netherlands.</strong></p>
